To join the Society complete and print out the Application Form and post it, with a cheque for the appropriate amount, to:

The Membership Secretary
Devon Archaeological Society
Royal Albert Memorial Museum
Queen Street

EX4 3RX

Please allow 28 days for us to process your application.

Membership rates are:
  • Individual members £25.00
  • Joint members £32.00
  • Family (2 adults and named children of the same household up to their 18th birthday, £25 if children are YAC members) £32
  • Student members £14.00
  • Institutional members £45.00

Subscriptions become due on January 1st, but if you join between October 1st and December 31st your membership fee runs to the end of the following year.

You can pay by standing order. The form for this can be downloaded here. There is a gift aid declaration (see below) attached to this.

As a new member you will receive a Membership Pack containing information on the Society's activities, and a Volunteers' Register form so that you can indicate in which of the Society's activities you are interested in participating.

Please note that the Society keeps its membership records on computer. If you do not wish your name and address to be recorded in this way (Data Protection Act, 1984) you should indicate the fact on the Application Form.

After joining it is a great help if you pay your subscription renewal on time. An easy way to do this is to complete a standing order form and send it to the Membership Secretary. This will cut down on the cost of sending out reminders and get the money into the Society's interest earning account.

Gift Aid tax reclaims: Our charity status gives us a tax advantage; we can claim a tax refund from the Inland Revenue for those subscriptions and donations paid out of a member's taxed income. If you pay at least £5.04 tax a year you can add a massive 25% to the value of your subscription or donation simply by completing a Gift Aid Declaration. The declaration form for those first applying to join the Society appears at the end of the Membership Application Form; the form for existing members appears separately.

Donations and legacies: Monetary gifts to the Society can be made any time or as a bequest in a will. These can be for general funds or to be applied to a specific purpose. You are reading this web site through the generosity of a legacy.

As a charity, registered (as No. 276865) with the Charity Commission, we account to them for our income.
